Echinacea enhances the immune system and is very effective in improving respiratory infections such as influenza and bronchitis. This plant stimulates specific cell-dependent immunity and improves immune activity by increasing the function of T lymphocytes, phagocytes, leukocytes and increasing the synthesis of interferons. Also, the extract of this plant prevents the influenza virus from entering the cell and causing infection and its spread by inhibiting the binding of the virus to its receptor. Echinacea plant extract significantly increases white and red blood cells such as lymphocytes and hemoglobin. After distemper and parvovirus vaccination of healthy dogs, consumption of echinacea plant extract significantly increases the antibody against these two viruses and thus strengthens the immune system. Echinacea plant increases white and red blood cells and hemoglobin and increases the amount of phagocytosis and IgM as a result of immunogenesis in the host’s body.
Thymus vulgaris has antioxidant, antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antipyretic and anti-congestion effects. The active compounds in this plant are mucolytic (expectorant) and facilitate the exit of the secretions. In addition, the extract of this plant is expectorant and is very effective in improving spasm, bronchitis and cough. Thymol and Carvacrol present in thyme stimulate the movement of the upper respiratory cilia and dilute phlegm and help to expel it from the respiratory tract, clearing the nose, trachea and bronchi, breathing comfort, increasing pulmonary capacity and faster recovery of the animal. Thyme plant extract in dogs and cats with asthma symptoms improves the respiratory condition and also makes the animal calmer.
